    LET'S CREATE A BETTER FUTURE FOR ANYONE AFFECTED BY MENTAL ILLNESS.

  • IT'S A FUN EVENING WITH LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, DANCING, HORS D’OEUVRES, CASH BAR AND PRIZES

     

    Join us on Friday May 5, 2017 for a fun night listening to interesting guest speakers, eating delicious hors d’oeuvres and listening or dancing to live entertainment. You will also have the opportunity to win a variety of wonderful prizes. Dress code will be cocktail casual or "Unmask the Strigma: A masquerade Ball" theme.

     

    What's important is that you won't only be taking part in an event, you'll be raising money and helping us to create a better future for anyone affected by mental illness in the Waterloo region.

     

     

    Tickets are $60 ($25 tax receipt) per person. Get a table of 8 together or come on your own. Proceeds of the event will go to the Adult and Children's Mental Health Programs at Grand River Hospital.

    GINETTE LAFRENIERE

    Keynote Speaker

    Dr. Lafreniere is an Associate Professor at the Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University. She is the Founding Director of the Social Innovation Research Group (SIRG) as well as the Director of the Manulife Centre for Community Health Research. Since 2002, she has worked on multiple community based research projects with a variety of community partners including but not limited to survivors of war and torture, Newcomers, immigrants and refugees, intergenerational survivors of the Residential School System, sex trade workers and survivors of domestic violence.

    Dr. Lafreniere's keynote entitled: "I Shouldn't Have to Remember to Breathe: Women, Mental Health and Resiliency in Community" will explore the topic of women's mental health and the importance of social supports.

     The fundraiser was successful and the group stayed together to expand
    their repertoire and perfect their sound.

    Born and raised in Kitchener and lives in Waterloo. Raphael works as a Child and Youth Counsellor for 13 years at Lutherwood's Mental Health Residential setting and Youth Justice. He works within a milieu of professionals and one in particular who does Music Therapy which is near and dear to him.

    3 Smiles Fundraiser group members include educators, parents, family of suicide victims, people with lived experience of mental health and concerned community members. 
     
    We came together to plan our first annual fundraiser event to raise funds in support of mental health care in the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Our goal is to directly impact on ensuring excellent health care remains close to home for residents of Waterloo Region.
